The Selangor State Theatre Council, or Majlis Teater Negeri Selangor (MTS) in short, is a coalition of theatre-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) founded in the 1980s. The primary objective of MTS is to strengthen and cultivate the preservation of artistic heritage, theatrical literature, and sustainable production in the field of performing arts, especially theater, across the state of Selangor. MTS actively promotes and elevates theater as a cultural movement while supporting its development as a creative industry that contributes to the enrichment of the arts in Selangor. MTS is open to all theater NGOs in Selangor, public and private universities (especially through their cultural centers), as well as individuals who are actively involved in planning and empowering cultural activities, with the aim of positioning theater as an essential medium for the expression of the people’s voice. Currently, MTS consists of 10 affiliated associations and 2 associate member organizations from across the state of Selangor.
